How it works.
Telephonic is a Vancouver-based company, created to be an alternative provider of telephone services. We replace your expensive landline with our new Internet-based service, giving you many more features for a much lower price than what you are used to paying.
Our service uses your broadband or high-speed Internet connection instead of your plain old telephone service to transmit your calls. The technology that allows us to give you better service for a lower price is know as VoIP.
OK, but "Internet Telephone"? And what is "VoIP"?
VoIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol. It basically means that the sound of a voice is digitized and broken into numerous small parcels of data. Then, instead of using the traditional analog phone network, that data is sent through the public Internet network - and may never have to be touched by a large phone company along the way. This is how we save you money, and why long distance has suddenly become a lot cheaper than it used to be.
Your Telephonic service will work just like the telephone service you are used to - you can even keep the same phone number if you wish. You can also use the phone you already have, and make and receive calls in the same manner as you do now. Your computer doesn't have to be turned on. The only real differences you'll notice are the host of new features you'll have access to (and how little you'll have to pay for them).
Telephonic in your home.
There are four basic ways you can set up Telephonic in your home:
- Combined VoIP Adapter & WiFi Router: (look here) The VoIP phone plugs into your high-speed Internet connection, and your computer plugs into the VoIP phone. The connection is simple, and the sound quality is superior.
- VoIP Adapter: (look here) Simply use a phone you already have. To do this, you will need an adapter, which can be purchased from us. You can plug your phone into this adapter and it plugs into a router. The router shares your Internet connection with other devices and computers. This option works great with a cordless phone.
- Software-based VoIP Phone: (look here) Use a 'softphone' on your computer. Your computer remains plugged into your high-speed Internet connection, and you download a software phone. This operates just like a phone (it will use the number you choose to assign to it and will be able to use voicemail, call waiting, etc). The software is free, but works great with a headset, which you can purchase from us if you wish.
- Single or Multi-line VoIP Phone: (look here) The VoIP phone plugs into your high-speed Internet connection, and your computer plugs into the VoIP phone. The connection is simple, and the sound quality is superior. These phones can also be deployed in office environments with mutiple phones each with their own extension.
You can use Telephonic in many different ways to connect to any phone anywhere in the world. Our systems intelligently route your calls using the Internet and high-quality digital conections to local telephone networks all around the globe.
